Burglar Hits Trabuco Mesa Neighborhood

At least three burglaries have taken place in close proximity to each other.

After a few weeks of quiet, another home has been knocked off in a Rancho Santa Margarita neighborhood that has become popular for burglaries.

The area near Trabuco Mesa Elementary School was the site of the most recent incident, not far from burglaries over the past three months on Mandevilla and Ulmaria. In both those incidents, jewels were among the items stolen.

The incident Thursday on Via Gardenia, like the others, took place when the resident was away from home.

Lt. Brian Schmutz, chief of police services in Rancho Santa Margarita, said he has assigned additional resources to the ongoing string of residential burglaries.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, a victim contacted police at 2:51 p.m., and informed them that the home had been burgled. The caller was unsure if the perpetrator was still in the home and requested a deputy perform a walk-through to clear the residence.

The victim had been away from his home for about two hours. The blotter did not indicate what items were stolen.

The other night at about 11:30pm someone pounded loudly on our front door. We were in the living room & my dog was sleeping in the bedroom. She awoke & spazzed out with her barking. When my husband answered, nobody was there. He went outside & couldn't see anyone. We ruled it out as a prank - but now after knowing about this, wonder if it was a ploy. Our cul-de-sac is near the school & unlit at the end.

There have been a lot of strange things going on!! These burglars are waiting and watching!! All of us gave to be aware!! Especially those of us with easy access out of the neighborhoods like backing up to Montana! These burglars are locals. I just know it!!! We all have to keep our eyes open and be aware !! Very aware!!

For sure, everyone needs to be aware in their neighborhoods and look out for each other.

There was a man walking around our neighborhood trying to sell magazines to raise money for charities. He wasn't shy about saying he was broke or from the hood. I wouldn't open my door to him or let him see inside. He was a black male dressed nice with black slacks, red sweater, grey tie.

This is all due to the frigin section 8 housing! When I moved here in 1998, I hardly ever locked my door or cars. Now I double check everything before bed. I guarantee if I ever find someone in my house, they are leaving Ina body bag.....

I once actually took one of those kids in and fed him, then drove him back to the halfway house in LA. Just a kid trying to fix his past and make something of himself.

Just because someone is "black" "from the hood" or "broke" does not make them a criminal.
