Police Blotter: 'Dead Body' Being Loaded Into Minivan Just a Mannequin

Also, youths throw eggs at vehicles in RSM, and a prowler carrying a large, pointy stick peeps into bedroom windows.

A utility worker called the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Friday morning after seeing a man loading what appeared to be a wrapped-up dead body in a blue minivan. According to the caller, the head and feet were exposed, but the rest of the body was covered with fabric.

The utility worker called back about 10 minutes later after learning from a neighbor that the man makes mannequins for a living and must have been loading one of his creations into the minivan.

The call came in around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, from the 31900 block of Pleasant Glen Road.

Youths Throw Eggs at Passing Vehicles

In what seems to be an ongoing saga of juveniles throwing items at cars in RSM, a caller reported that several youths were throwing eggs at passing vehicles from a slope near Camino Altozano on Saturday night.

The call came in around 9 p.m. on Saturday, from Camino Altozano and Avenida de las Banderas.

Prowler Carrying a Large Stick Peeps Into RSM Bedroom Window

A woman reported that a man carrying a large, pointy stick was looking into her daughter’s bedroom. The man was in his late 40s with long hair, a dark mustache, and a tattoo under his left eye. The caller said the same man had been seen looking into windows in the past.

The call came in around 10 p.m. on Sunday, from Gavilan.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from Feb. 3 to Feb. 6.

Disturbance 10:39 p.m. Sunday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Buena Suerte. A caller saw a group of people from a nearby residence throw oranges at passing vehicles. 

Missing Adult 10:14 p.m. Sunday, on Sarracenia. A caller said she was worried about a person who never made it to her Super Bowl party that day.

Hit-and Run-Misdemeanor 9:15 p.m. Sunday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Melinda Road. The driver of a blue Honda Civic said a green two-door sedan hit her vehicle and then sped away.

Disturbance 1:45 a.m. Sunday, on Gingham Street. A caller reported hearing a man and a woman in a physical fight in a nearby residence. Deputies arrived and said that the fight was verbal, not physical, and that it was between a man and his children.

Suspicious Circumstances 10:01 p.m. Saturday, 32900 block of Brookseed Drive. A caller said a group of about 10 males went into the canyon behind the caller’s residence and looked to be up to no good.

Welfare Check 9:47 p.m. Saturday, on Buena Suerte and Avenida de las Flores. A caller said she was with a drunken teenage girl who was in the park with a man, who ran away when the caller approached. The girl had her pants off when the woman approached the couple. Deputies returned the juvenile to her parents.

Traffic Accident 8:59 p.m. Saturday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida de las Banderas. A caller said a man was driving a red sports car on the wrong side of the street. He eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median. Deputies arrested a 22-year-old man,  who is being held on $10,000 bail.

Disturbance 8:29 p.m. Saturday, on Avenida de las Flores and Buena Suerte. A caller said 10 juveniles were at Monte Vista park, drinking beer and wine and being too noisy.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 5:44 p.m. Saturday, on Sycamore Canyon Drive. A man said his 19-year-old daughter was approached by a male, who asked her strange questions while she was taking pictures on a running trail.

Disturbance 9:57 a.m. Saturday, on Frontier Street. A man said his 16-year-old son used force against him and was refusing to do what he was told. The father told deputies he had locked his son out of his residence.

Family Dispute 9:12 a.m. Saturday,21400 block of Birdhollow Drive. A caller said she was involved in an argument with her ex-husband and mother-in-law. Her father-in-law reportedly owned a gun, but she did not know where he kept it.

Traffic Accident 9:05 a.m. Friday, on Santa Nella and Avenida de las Banderas. The Orange County Fire Authority needed assistance with a traffic accident that left the driver of one of the vehicles in pain. The other vehicle had pulled into an adjacent parking lot. One of the vehicles had knocked down a road sign in the median during the accident.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 3:46 p.m. Friday, 22100 block of El Paseo. A man arrived at the RSM City Hall with a video that showed two juveniles trespassing at a business. The video also showed the juveniles get into a vehicle and steal a purse. The owner of the video did not know when this occurred.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 1:08 p.m. Friday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida de las Flores. A caller said he saw two males jump over a fence into a nearby backyard.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 12:49 p.m. Friday, on Oso Parkway and Morning Trail. A caller wanted deputies to look for a male or female carrying a backpack and wearing a baseball cap, a tan shirt and shorts. This person had tried to open the caller's vehicle door at a stoplight.

Traffic Hazard 7:17 a.m. Friday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida Empresa. A caller reported that the traffic lights on the street were flashing and needed to be reset.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 9:46 p.m. Thursday, 24200 block of Fairway Lane. A woman said she believed that people who live at a home on the street are making methamphetamine or another substance, because she reported smelling a very “bleak” odor near the home for the past two hours. She said that she notices the odor quite often.
