Police Blotter: Wild High-Speed Chase Ends in a Dump

Also, a raging party ends with a brawl, something's on fire but it isn't the house, and a neighborhood gets egged.

Orange County Sheriff deputies arrested a 36-year-old man after pursuing him in a high speed chase in Rancho Santa Margarita and Coto de Caza early Friday morning.

Deputies chased Adam Castro, who according to police reports was swerving all over Antonio Parkway in his Buick at speeds above 70 mph. The suspect ended up smashing the car into the main entrance gate into Coto de Caza. The impact broke a portion of the gate, and the man was able to drive southbound through the gated community, exiting through another gate before losing control of the vehicle.

The vehicle slid down a hill, smashed into an electrical pole, and landed inside a section of the Prima Deshecha landfill. The suspect managed to flee from his smoking vehicle.

Deputies searched for Castro from the top of the hill, but were initially unable to locate him and waited for assistance from a K-9 unit.

Deputies, aided by a K-9 canine, entered the landfill and eventually located the man under an electrical pole. Casto was conscious but suffered from cuts and bruises. He was transported to Mission Hospital, where he was arrested. He is being held without bail at the Central Mens Jail.

The call came in around midnight on Friday, from Oso Parkway and the 241 toll road.

Raging party ends with a brawl

A party at the community center near the Bell Tower Regional Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita became out-of-control, according to two calls made to the OCSD on Saturday evening.

An informant complained about a loud party that was raging at the community center, with revelers yelling, screaming, drinking, and smoking marijuana.

A woman also called the OCSD claiming that she saw about 30 youths watch a large group of people fight in the parking lot behind the community center. According to the woman, the fight was loud and she could hear people screaming. Most of the teens dispersed before deputies arrived, but a few remained, and were treated for head wounds by the Orange County Fire Authority.

The first call came in around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, from Santa Margarita Parkway. The second call came in around 10 p.m. on Friday, from the 30600 block of Santa Margarita Parkway.

"House fire" is homeowner burning leaves in yard

The Orange County Fire Authority needed assistance with a suspected fire in a Rancho Santa Margarita neighborhood early Saturday afternoon. According to the call, there was quite a bit of smoke coming from a nearby home.

Deputies investigated, and determined that the smoke was coming from a homeowner who was burning leaves in his backyard.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, from Calle Arcos.

Houses egged by people in passing car

A caller said that a group of people in a black compact car were driving around his Rancho Santa Margarita neighborhood late Friday evening, egging residences as they drove.

The caller’s house was egged, but he didn’t want deputies to contact him.

The call came in around 10 p.m. on Friday, from the 21200 block of Longridge Drive.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from November 18 to November 21.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 5:22 p.m. Monday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and the 241 toll road. An informant wanted deputies to look for a man who was leaning against the bridge’s railing with his eyes shut.

Petty Theft Report 12:00 p.m. Monday, on Rosa. A woman said someone had stolen her son’s bicycle from their balcony and replaced it with a different bike.

Citizen Assist 9:41 a.m. Monday, 21600 block of Honeysuckle Street. A woman said her homeowner’s association was cutting down too many trees near her house.

Burglary Report 8:47 a.m. Monday, 22400 block of Gilberto. A man from Santa Margarita Plumbing and Heating said his truck had been broken into over the weekend.

Traffic Stop 1:13 a.m. Monday, on Antonio Parkway and Tijeras Creek. Deputies arrested a 24-year-old man, who was released from the Intake Release Center.

Citizen Assist 8:58 p.m. Sunday, on Via Prado. A caller said a man threatened his son and grabbed him at the pool earlier that day.

Assist Outside Agency 8:29 p.m. Sunday, on Oso Parkway and Antonio Parkway. The Orange County Fire Authority needed help with a woman in a minivan who was chasing her 19-year-old son while he ran on Oso Parkway near Chevron. The son initially appeared intoxicated, but deputies determined that this was not the case, and that he just wanted to walk to his friend’s house.

Keep the Peace 4:49 p.m. Sunday, on Via Meseta. A woman wanted a contractor removed from her property.

Patrol Check 8:35 a.m. Sunday, on Live Oak Canyon Road and Trabuco Canyon Road. An informant said a man, who has a restraining order prohibiting him from being near the general store, was hanging around outside of the store. Deputies briefly detained the man before releasing him.

Court Order Violation 12:02 a.m. Sunday, on San Pablo. A woman said her husband had parked his car in her driveway, but he wasn’t supposed to be near the home due to a restraining order she has against him. Deputies arrested a 37-year-old man, who was released after posting bond from the Intake Release Center.

Disturbance—Music or Party 10:51 p.m. Saturday, 32100 block of Rancho Cielo. A caller complained about a bunch of teens who were throwing beer cans and running around the neighborhood.

Citizen Assist 4:53 p.m. Saturday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and El Paseo. An out-of-breath man was upset about youths who were videotaping him inside of Target.

Welfare Check 4:48 p.m. Saturday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Interchange Plaza. A caller wanted someone to check on a woman who was wrapped in a blue blanket while walking on Santa Margarita Parkway.

Investigate a Person Down 4:41 p.m. Saturday, 600 block of Sable. An informant said a woman was laying on the street near the entrance of the Archstone apartment complex on Oso Parkway.

Petty Theft Report 9:59 a.m. Saturday, on San Simon. A caller said someone had stolen fuel from his work truck.

Disturbance 11:07 p.m. Friday, on El Corazon. A caller said about 40 intoxicated youths were arguing while going in and out of a nearby residence.

Disturbance 8:43 p.m. Friday, on Alondra. A man said several people showed up at his door threatening to assault his 22-year-old son.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 7:50 p.m. Friday, 29700 block of Melinda Road. A caller was concerned about a man who was writing about Jesus while handing bracelets out to children in the area.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 2:09 p.m. Friday, on Ammolite. A man said he saw a man bury something, most likely drugs, in a nearby park.
