Police Blotter: Dog Bites Toddler; Child in Good Condition

Also, a Coto de Caza man really wants drivers to slow down, and a man fights with a squatter in Las Flores.

A distraught grandmother said that her dog bit her 2-year-old granddaughter in Coto de Caza on Thursday morning. The grandmother said that the girl was not breathing at the time of the call.

When deputies and the Orange County Fire Authority arrived, the child kept losing consciousness. However, she was breathing. She was taken to Mission Hospital, where she is recovering.  

The call came in around 7 a.m. on Thursday, from Sagitta Way.

Coto de Caza man walks into traffic to tell drivers to slow down

If you want to get something done, sometimes you have to do it yourself. Apparently that's the attitude of a Coto de Caza resident. A caller was concerned about a man who walked into traffic on Coto de Caza Drive on Wednesday afternoon. The man was yelling at drivers, telling them to slow down.

The call came in around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, from Coto de Caza Drive and Vista del Verde.

Las Flores man fights with squatter

A Las Flores man said that he was in a verbal altercation with a squatter that he saw entering a nearby residence on Thursday morning.

The call came in around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, from the 300 block of Sable.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from March 7 to March 10.

Welfare Check 12:13 p.m. Wednesday, on Hubbard Way. A caller wanted  someone to check on a 43-year-old co-worker who hadn’t shown up for work or responded to phone calls or text messages. 

Suspicious Person in Vehicle 10:43 p.m. Monday, on Santa Loretta. A caller said that a middle-aged man was sitting in his silver Mercedes for over an hour, moving his seat back and forth and making rude gestures. 

Warrant Arrest 7:57 p.m. Monday, on Dewberry. A man said that his son, who has a warrant for his arrest and is a heroin addict, had recently been kicked out of his home but was just seen on his property. The father wanted deputies to arrest his son, but deputies searched the area and could not locate him.

Property for Destruction 5:16 p.m. Monday, on Cebolla. A woman said that her friend found a capsule in her vehicle. The woman thought it might be a controlled substance packaged for sale, and wanted deputies to destroy it.

Municipal Code Violations 4:50 p.m. Monday, on Avenida de las Flores and Buena Suerte. A caller requested a patrol check for Monte Vista Park, because several people were letting their dogs run around without a leash.

Illegal Peddling 4:25 p.m. Monday, on Santa Inez and Santa Gustavo. A caller said that two men were going door-to-door in the neighborhood, trying to sell contracting services. 

Citizen Assist 11:10 a.m. Monday, 21900 block of Alma Aldea. A man called from Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate school saying that a student brought a pocket knife with him to school that morning.

Disturbance 12:25 a.m. Monday, on Via Honesto and Antonio Parkway. A caller reported seeing a man hit a woman so hard that it caused her to fall to the ground. The woman said that she was going to call the police.

Disturbance—Mechanical 12:01 a.m. Monday, on Colibri. A caller wanted to file a noise complaint because a vehicle’s alarm had been blaring for quite some time.
