Open door was a gateway to death

A Rancho Santa Margarita woman was concerned about her elderly neighbor's open door Monday afternoon. According to the informant, the front door of the house was wide open, and the television could be heard from outside.

When the woman tried to communicate with the resident, she didn’t get any response. She thought that someone was abusing her neighbor.

When deputies arrived, they determined that the neighbor had passed away from what appeared to be natural causes. The body was transported to the Orange County Coroner's office.

The call came in around 3 p.m. on Monday, from the 100 block of Flora del Sol.
