Police Blotter: Radio Shack Employee Assaulted; Suspect Is Tasered at Target

Also, a brawl occurred in Coto de Caza, and two males film patrons entering 24-Hour Fitness in RSM.

A man assaulted a Radio Shack employee in RSM on Tuesday morning while trying to steal merchandise from the store. According to the employee, the man had also been in the store Monday.

After the assault, the man left Radio Shack without stealing anything and ran toward Target on El Paseo.

Deputies confronted a suspect near the side entrance of Target. The suspect resisted arrest, and deputies used a Taser to subdue him, deputies said. The suspect, a 48-year-old man, is being held without bail.

The call came in around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, from the 30600 block of Santa Margarita Parkway.

Five Males Beat Up a Man in Coto de Caza

A caller said he saw five males assault another on Water Lily Way in Coto de Caza Wednesday afternoon. The assailants and the victim fled the scene, but the caller later told deputies he saw some of the assailants  running west on Oso Parkway. Deputies detained one suspect.

The call came in around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, on Water Lily Way and Lake View Drive.

Two Men Drink Beer While Filming Customers Entering 24-Hour Fitness

Two men wearing hooded sweatshirts were sitting in the parking lot of the 24-Hour Fitness in RSM Monday evening. According to the caller, they were drinking beer and filming customers entering and leaving the fitness center.

The call came in around 9 p.m. on Monday, from the 22300 block of El Paseo.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2.

Vandalism in Progress 11:37 p.m. Tuesday, on Oso Parkway and Antonio Parkway. A caller saw a black-clad man yelling, throwing objects and hitting structures in the parking lot of the complex. The man began to calm down a few minutes later when he found out someone had called the Sheriff’s Department.

Drunken Driving 11:01 p.m. Tuesday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida Empresa. A caller reported seeing a person driving a Toyota SUV, swerving  erratically.

Suspicious Vehicle 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, on Amantes. A woman said her daughter had been followed home by a man in a white pickup. When her daughter arrived home, the man got out of the car and walked toward her window. He left when he saw her parents.

Traffic Accident—Unknown Injuries 5:27 p.m. Tuesday, Santa Margarita Parkway and El Paseo. A Ford Ranger hit a tree on Santa Margarita Parkway. The driver was taken to Mission Hospital with a possible leg fracture.

Missing Juvenile 4:58 p.m. Tuesday, 20300 block of Flanagan Road. A 14-year-old boy was reported missing. He was last seen at Trabuco Hills High School around 3 p.m. The boy is Hispanic, with dark hair, and was last seen wearing a black Dickie’s jacket, a white T-shirt, khaki pants and red Converse tennis shoes.

Pedestrian Check 1:33 a.m. Tuesday, on La Cueva. Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man.

Assist Outside Agency 9:03 a.m. Tuesday, 32000 block of Dove Canyon Drive. Animal Control needed assistance with a large, vicious-looking dog that was chasing customers around the rear parking lot of the water district.

Trespassing 3:22 a.m. Tuesday, on Plano Trabuco Road and Las Amigas. An employee at the Shell station reported that an intoxicated male was in the parking lot, harassing employees and customers and refusing to leave.

Traffic Stop 2:01 a.m. Tuesday, on Avenida de las Banderas and Aventura. Deputies arrested a 22-year-old man.

Family Dispute 11:02 p.m. Monday, on La Frontera. A man said his wife was drunk and becoming violent with him, pushing, shoving and threatening to leave with their daughter.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle 7:45 p.m. Monday, 23800 block of Via Roble. A caller saw a person who appeared to be smoking heroin inside a Mercedes that was parked in a dark area. The caller reported catching people smoking heroin in their cars in the past.

Disturbance 6:28 p.m. Monday, 100 block of Via Lampara. A woman said  her son was attempting to run away from home. She called from her car while following her son on Via Lampara. Deputies briefly detained the boy and returned him to his residence.

Hit-and-Run Misdemeanor Report 12:23 p.m. Monday, on Antonio Parkway and the 241 Toll Road. A female in a white Mercedes was hit by an elderly woman driving a burgundy Buick.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 8:51 a.m. Monday, on La Promesa and El Portal. A caller requested a patrol check for a man who had been sleeping on a bench at the upper part of the park. Deputies detained the man and released him, as he was not violating any laws.

Vandalism Report 7:47 a.m. Monday, 32000 block of Dove Canyon Drive. A security guard from the water tower said one of its vehicles was being vandalized.
