Police Blotter: RSM Teen Assaulted by a Group of Six Youths

Also, a delivery man gets bitten after dropping off a package; though fireworks remain illegal in RSM, people still play with fire.

A half-dozen teenagers ganged up on another teen Monday night in Rancho Santa Margarita.

A caller said a group of six youths were kicking and punching a young male victim, who was on the ground while being assaulted by the other boys.

The suspects fled on foot before deputies arried and could not be located. The victim described one of the suspects as a 16- or 17-year-old male, with black hair. He was last seen wearing a light blue v-neck shirt and jeans.

According to deputies, the victim did not want to press charges against his assailants.

The call came in around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, from the 31400 block of Santa Margarita Parkway.

Man Makes a Delivery, Gets Bitten

Animal control contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Saturday afternoon to report that a Federal Express delivery driver was bitten after delivering a package to an RSM home. The owner of the canine was present, and was cooperative with all agencies. After deputies left, the Orange County Fire Authority was on its way to check the driver’s injuries.

The call came in around noon on Saturday, from Highpoint.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from July 1 to July 4.

Disturbance—Music or Party 11:50 p.m. Monday, on Via Barcelona. A woman heard a loud party in a nearby town home.

Fireworks Violation 11:09 p.m. Monday, on Reflection Lane. A caller said kids were setting off fireworks at the eighth hole of the nearby golf course.

Fireworks Violation 10:37 p.m. Monday, 21700 block of Honeysuckle Street. A caller said someone was lighting off aerial fireworks in the area.

Fireworks Violation 10:36 p.m. Monday, on Tesoro Creek Road. A caller said someone was lighting off aerial fireworks near Tesoro High School.

Traffic Hazard 10:00 p.m. Monday, on Alma Aldea and Santa Margarita Parkway. A caller said a barbecue had fallen from the back of a white Nissan pickup truck. 

Fireworks Violation 9:39 p.m. Monday, on Roadrunner Court. A caller said a group of men were lighting off aerial fireworks into nearby brush.

Fireworks Violation 9:11 p.m. Monday, on La Miranda and El Paseo. A caller said someone was shooting off fireworks near a gas station on his street.

Disturbance 7:59 p.m. Monday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Antonio Parkway. A woman said someone had moved her belongings from a spot she was reserving at the RSM lake. When she confronted the man, he threw her items on the ground and was rude to her.

Traffic Stop 6:57 p.m. Monday, on Interchange Plaza and Santa Margarita Parkway. Deputies arrested a 45-year-old woman, who was cited and released from the Intake Release Center.

Disturbance–Music or Party 4:26 p.m. Monday, on Rand Court. A caller said there was loud music at a nearby home, and that the residents had placed speakers outside.

Disturbance 2:33 p.m. Monday, on Seacliff. A mother said she was involved in a fight with her 31-year-old daughter, who refused to leave her residence.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 2:17 p.m. Monday, 25800 block of Antonio Parkway. A caller said someone dumped trash cans and tipped over an outhouse at Las Flores Elementary school.

Fireworks Violation 1:27 p.m. Monday, on Via Solaz. A man said his tan cocker spaniel had run away because people were lighting off fireworks nearby.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 9:31 a.m. Monday, on Paseo Viento. A man found a large butcher knife outside of his house.

Family Dispute 2:05 a.m. Monday, 100 block of Sable. A woman said her 18-year-old daughter was trying to get into her room to get some toothpaste that the mother didn’t have. The daughter kept pounding on the door and wouldn’t stop, according to her mother.

Disturbance–Music or Party 10:56 p.m. Sunday, on Calle Melinda. A caller heard a loud party on her street.

Disturbance 6:00 p.m. Sunday, on Via Gardenia and Florecita. A caller said there was a child’s pool in the middle of his street, with children running around, nearly getting hit by passing cars.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 11:35 p.m. Saturday, on Calle del Vida and Calle de Felicidad. A woman wanted deputies to look for a group of youths who were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in the greenbelt near her home.

Traffic Accident–Unknown Injuries 10:40 p.m. Saturday, on Via Bravo and Melinda Road. A caller saw a Volvo station wagon hit the center divider.

Fireworks Violation 9:46 p.m. Saturday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida de las Banderas. A caller saw people light off large fireworks near the Bristol Park medical building.

Disturbance 3:27 p.m. Saturday, on Santa Fe. A caller said his landlord was throwing his personal items out of his residence.

Disturbance–Music or Party 4:02 p.m. Saturday, on Arroyo Vista and Avenida de las Banderas. A caller said a group of youths were blasting “vulgar rap music” from their stereo near the picnic area at Arroyo Vista Park.

Traffic Stop 2:08 p.m. Saturday, 22400 block of Antonio Parkway. Deputies arrested a 51-year-old man, who was cited and released from the Intake Release Center.

Municipal Code Violations 1:36 p.m. Saturday, on El Paseo and Santa Margarita Parkway. A concerned citizen said someone was selling fireworks out of a tent in the Bed, Bath and Beyond parking lot.

Welfare Check 12:33 a.m. Saturday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida de los Fundadores. A woman saw an elderly man sleeping in his electric wheelchair.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 12:10 a.m. Saturday, 100 block of Flor del Mar. A man said he could smell a strong chemical smell from a nearby house, and he thought the residents were cooking drugs there.
