Police Blotter: DIY Cannon Disturbs the Neighborhood

Also, an informant thought he saw a group of people kick and throw a basketball at a dog.

As Do-It-Yourself projects go, these folks take serious the right to bear arms. Question is, do they have a license to carry?

An informant saw six people walk outside of their Rancho Santa Margarita residence late Saturday evening. The suspects then began firing a homemade cannon into the air before running back inside the home.

There were no reports of injuries or property damage caused by DIY cannonballs.

The call came in around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, from Sepulveda.

Animal Control needed assistance from Orange County Sheriff deputies with a case of animal abuse that occurred in Trabuco Canyon Monday evening.

According to a witness, three youths and one man were allegedly kicking a dog and throwing a basketball at its head. The canine was tied up and unable to get away.

Deputies investigated and it appeared that the dog had suffered no injuries, and no crime had been committed.

The call came in around 6 p.m. on Monday, from Clementine Street.

Disturbance 8:47 p.m. Monday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Antonio Parkway. A caller reported seeing four men fishing in a “no fishing” zone at the lake.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 5:33 p.m. Monday, 21800 block of Avenida de los Fundadores. An informant wanted deputies to look for a man who was lying in the bushes near the parking lot of Cielo Vista Elementary school, smoking something out of a pipe.

Grand Theft Report 4:16 p.m. Monday, 24200 block of Fairway Lane. A man reported his golf clubs were stolen.

Disturbance 2:13 p.m. Monday, on Rosa. A woman said she was in an argument with another woman at the Las Flores community pool.

Pedestrian Check 12:26 a.m. Monday, on Antonio Parkway and Santa Margarita Parkway. Deputies arrested a 50-year-old man, who was released based on credit for time served from the Central Mens Jail.

Traffic Hazard 9:44 p.m. Sunday, on Antonio Parkway and Tijeras Creek. An informant spotted a mattress in the middle of the street.

Firework Violation 9:44 p.m. Sunday, 29700 block of Melinda Road. A man at the entrance of the Cortesia Apartments said six teen-aged boys were lighting off fireworks inside the complex.

Disturbance 8:36 p.m. Sunday, 110 block of Sable. A man said a 9-year-old boy was physically aggressive with the man's 8-year-old son.

Traffic Stop 8:25 p.m. Sunday, on Vereda Laguna and Avenida de las Flores. Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man, who was released from the Intake Release Center.

Petty Theft 3:47 p.m. Sunday, on Romero. A man said two teens had tried to steal wetsuits that were hanging in his front yard.

Disturbance 12:57 p.m. Sunday, on Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida de los Fundadores. A man fought with another man about a parking spot at the Beach Club.

Disturbance 11:48 a.m. Sunday, on Antonio Parkway and Santa Margarita Parkway. A woman said an "over-zealous animal lover" was yelling at her, accusing her of abusing her dog because she had tied him up in the shade while she shopped.

Investigate a Person Down 2:47 a.m. Sunday, on Vista del Verde and Alicante. A Coto de Caza security officer noticed a drunken person passed out on the grass next to the road.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 8:44 p.m. Saturday, on Antonio Parkway and Avenida de las Banderas. Six kids were placing a strip of metal across Avenida de las Banderas.

Assist Outside Agency 6:12 p.m. Saturday, on Heliopsis. The Orange County Fire Authority needed help with a man who had potentially overdosed on heroin.

Vandalism Report 7:52 a.m. Saturday, on Oso Parkway and Altura. A Cox Communications employee noticed five vehicles with flattened tires on Oso Parkway.
