Police Blotter: Unleashed Dog Attacks K-9 Unit

Also, road rage causes a man to slash another man's tires, and a driver tows a man in a shopping cart.

A battle of good vs. evil played out in a condominium parking lot in Rancho Santa Margarita this week—among dogs.

According to an informant who called the Orange County Sheriff Department, a young man parked his white Ford Explorer in the lot and let his dog out, unleashed.

The dog spotted another canine and attacked it.

The second dog was a K-9 unit belonging to an off-duty police officer.

The off-duty officer cited the juvenile owner of the attack dog. The K-9 was transported to an emergency veterinarian to treat injuries it sustained during the brawl.

The call came in around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, from the 29700 block of Melinda Road.

Man slashes tires after road rage incident

An older man slashed the tires of a white Nissan Pathfinder in Rancho Santa Margarita Tuesday afternoon after an incident of road rage. The caller, who contacted deputies from Round Table Pizza, said the suspect sped toward Los Alisos.

The call came in around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, from the 22200 block of El Paseo.

Driver tows man in shopping cart

An informant was puzzled and concerned about a silver car that was pulling a man riding in a shopping cart in Rancho Santa Margarita Wednesday evening.

The call came in around 5 p.m. on Saturday, from Promontory.

The following is a summary report of calls from Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Trabuco Canyon and Las Flores to the Orange County Sheriff's Department from May 1 to May 3.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 10:18 p.m. Thursday, 22700 block of El Prado. A caller wanted deputies to look for a group of youths who were drinking and smoking in a parking lot at the Avila at RSM apartment complex.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 7:56 p.m. Thursday, on Paseo Azuceno. An informant saw people siphon gasoline from a vehicle before setting the gas can on fire.

Traffic Accident 5:26 p.m. Thursday, on Calle Corta and Santa Margarita Parkway. A witness saw an accident between a burgundy Scion and a silver Buick sedan. Deputies arrested one of the drivers, a 78-year-old man, because he failed a blood-alcohol test. He was cited and released from the Intake Release Center

Traffic Accident 3:07 p.m. Thursday, on La Miranda and El Paseo. A blue Ford Aerostar collided with a skateboarder, according to an informant. The skateboarder was taken to Mission Hospital with a broken arm.

Keep the Peace 11:25 a.m. Thursday, on Court Las Rosas. A man said construction workers who had been fired were back on his property, refusing to leave. The construction workers said the homeowner had their tools and supplies, and weren’t allowing them to retrieve them.

Traffic Accident 10:53 p.m. Wednesday, on Antonio Parkway and Alas del Paz. A witness reported seeing a silver Honda Accord smash into a silver Toyota Highlander,causing one of the vehicles to smoke.

Disturbance 10:02 p.m. Wednesday, 22400 block of Alma Aldea. A man was in an argument with his upstairs neighbor.

Warrant Arrest 7:58 p.m. Wednesday, on Dover. Deputies arrested a 50-year-old man, who is being held without bail at the Central Mens Jail.

Disturbance 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, on Robinson Ranch Road and Heritage Drive. A woman was in an argument with another woman, who allegedly had been taking photos of the informant’s children.

Court Order Violation 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, 22100 block of El Paseo. A woman said her ex-husband had picked up their daughter from daycare against a court order.

Disturbance 10:17 p.m. Tuesday, 22400 block of Alma Aldea. An informant was annoyed by his neighbor’s stomping. The neighbor said she was merely cleaning her apartment.

Drunken Driving 6:42 p.m. Tuesday, on Avenida de los Fundadores and Avenida de las Flores. A caller saw a woman pull over several times to throw wine bottles out of her Audi.

Suspicious Person/Circumstances 10:57 a.m. Tuesday, on Via Amistosa. A caller said a transient was sleeping in the leasing office of the Villa La Paz apartment complex.
