Sheriff On the Lookout for Rancho Santa Margarita Man

Concerns that he may harm himself have Orange County Sheriff Deputies trying to find local resident.

Orange County Sheriff deputies are on the lookout for a Rancho Santa Margarita man who may be trying to hurt himself.

Helicopters hovered above the city Thursday afternoon as police attempted to locate a 47-year-old resident.

According to Lt. Brian Schmutz, chief of police services, the Orange County Sheriff Dept., was notified of potential trouble around noon.

Schmutz said that the man "had made statements that caused concern that he might harm himself."

"At this point it’s unknown if he left the city, but we’re checking his last known location of Antonio at Avenida De Las Banderas," Schmutz said. "Out of concern for the man’s safety, we’re continuing to search the area using additional resources, including a police helicopter.”
