Teenagers Being Dumb? You Bet

High school boys could have started something serious.

Three teenage boys attracted the attention of a resident, who called 9-1-1 to report their activities before they started a fire.

According to the blotter of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the boys were lighting fireworks and aiming them into the dry canyon.

Apparently, they didn't get the message about the danger of doing that. In 2010, fireworks caused about 15,500 fires, which included the burning of 1,100 structures and 300 vehicles.

In October 2007, the Santiago Incident Fire burned near Irvine, Tustin, Lake Forest and Rancho Santa Margarita. The cause of the fire was arson, and it burned about 28,445 acres and threatened about 750 homes. It burned a total of 31 days.

The report was made Saturday night, 8:39 p.m., from Pomela and Anana.
