This Child Needed Help, All Right

Screams alarm a Rancho Santa Margarita neighbor, who contacts sheriff deputies to protect the child.

It helps to know the neighbors. If you don't, things are not always as they appear to be.

A well-meaning neighbor contacted the Orange County Sheriff's Department over the weekend because of some yelling and screaming heard nearby.

According to the Rancho Santa Margarita informant, a young boy was screaming at his father, "Daddy, don't do that!"

The informant also heard the water running, and feared that the boy might be in danger of some sort or abused in some manner.

Deputies arrived at the location 11 minutes after the call was dispatched. They reported that a man was giving his autistic daughter a therapy bath.

The call for help was made Sunday, 11:12 a.m., from the 21000 block of Los Alisos.

This report was culled from the Orange County Sheriff's website. Not all facts in each report are made public; the outcome of the report may differ from the original blotter item. There should be no assumption of guilt based on this limited information.

"Back in the Day" when we were home owners, we made it a point to create a "neighborhood directory" with everyone's name, address, phone, kids' names and pets' names. The idea was that if any little ones or pets were wandering loose in the neighborhood, it would be much easier to get them reunited with their families. We also had neighborhood cookouts several times a year, to get better acquainted. If someone chose not to participate, it was their choice.
