One man was injured in a set of fires near Trabuco Canyon on Wednesday night, according to Orange County Fire Authority officials. Two cabins were burned and there were three small brush fires near Holy Jim Trail, officials said.

The man, who was in one of the two cabins that burned, received first and second degrees burns to his arms, according to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the OCFA. It was earlier reported that the cabins were unoccupied. Authorities are still unclear about the connection between the man and the cabin.

The firefighters were able to contain the blaze to two acres, and 50 firefighters will remain through the night to mop up and to battle any flare ups, Concialdi said.

The cabin fires were reported at 6:04 p.m. and were extinguished about 45 minutes later, he said. Orange County Sheriff and the California Highway Patrol were evacuating nearby cabins and authorities have closed Live Oak Canyon and Trabuco Creek roads leading into Holy Jim Canyon, according to Concialdi.

Three strike teams were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

from what i am hearing on scanner and other sites, the fires started at the cabins, 2 fire investigators were brought in to check the area where the orgin of this fire started.. also helicopter 4 from orange county fire authority has made a last drop on the spot fire that was off the main body of fire.. i have been reading that folks have said the fire is contained this i can not confirm as i have not heard this over the scanner.. but fire crews are working on mop up and crews will be on scene over nite for briefing in the morning at 0600 - 6am,,, helicopter 4 will check in with branch 1 battalion chief in about 30 min to find out if they are needed back to do another water drop. ffs ( fire fighters ) are leaving their hoses on the ground but have shut off the fire hydrant as this is causing a major mud problem. last report the fire was contained at 2 ac,,
Joann Lavis January 02, 2014 at 01:01 AM
per scanner fire is not fully contained yet , helicopter 4 is back over the fire with a full load of water -
Joann Lavis January 02, 2014 at 01:09 AM
fire is not contained, there is multiple spot fires that have flared up and sending embers all over.. , ( double ducks scanner just dropped off, i hate that ) spots fire are to the west of the main fire ,,

As I assume all people posting are local-why are the time stamps for the comments off? How do I know when they were posted? It is currently 10:45 PM Jan 1. Why do they say 1 am Jan 2?
Joann Lavis January 02, 2014 at 01:53 AM
i have no clue wondered about that too, scanner talk is moving the icp ( incident comand post closer to the fire . also branch 4 was talking to the command post about opening up the fire hydrants to the ffs ( fire fighters ) ( this could be for structure protection,, time 10: 50 pm

Sad to hear that Holy Jim trail is destroyed because the wilderness is pretty. :'(
Joann Lavis January 02, 2014 at 09:43 AM
last time i was in this area was late 70s -brings back old memories..-
Joann Lavis January 02, 2014 at 09:45 AM
per scanner about 1/2 hour ago.. 5 fire engins were left on scene over nite . they are still there, briefing should be about 7-8 am then air craft is normally over the fire at 8am depending on the fire situation.. unknown what happend over the fire after midnite meaning if the spot fires are out or not
Bryan Bowers January 02, 2014 at 10:43 AM
@Britt, I wouldn't worry too much. From all accounts I have read only 1-2 acres have burned so far. I'm not sure exactly which cabins burned... the road branches off just after the parking lot past the Holy Jim fire station. There are cabins to the right, and also cabins to the left which leads to the trailhead for Holy Jim.
