Traumatic Injuries Killed Woman Run Over by Own Car

The coroner determined the elderly woman died from the accident, not anything that preceded it.

The woman who was run over by her own vehicle died from the injuries sustained in the freak accident, and apparently not from something else that caused her to exit the vehicle.

Glenna Doke of Ketchum, ID, died of multiple traumatic injuries, according to the autopsy prepared by the Orange County coroner. She did not die from any distress that may have preceded the accident that occurred about 10:50 a.m. on March 24, the coroner said.

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol have been able to determine that Doke, 74, started the white Ford van that she intended to drive but then got out of the vehicle. Parked on an incline of a residential driveway on the 30300 block of Hamilton Trail Road, the vehicle rolled backward. Doke was run over by the left front tire.

She was transported to Mission Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators still aren’t sure why she got out of the vehicle. “It might have been intentional or unintentional,” said Chris Goodwin, spokesman for the CHP. “She may have fallen out.”
