Architect: It Would Take $9 Mil to Fix Tijeras Creek Elementary
District-wide, Capistrano Unified is facing $822 million in repairs and renovations. Here's Tijeras Creek Elementary School's share.
To modernize Tijeras Creek Elementary School would take $9 million, an architect hired by the Capistrano Unified School District has found.
The report was created in 2009 and has recently been updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.
Of the $9 million, half of that is slated for replacing half of the portable classrooms with permanent buildings. Another $567,000 would be spent addressing routine maintenance, which the district has put off in recent years, including roofing, heating and floor covering.

Also, the updated total also includes $576,000 for upgraded technology for students.
Among the issues at Tijeras Creek is that at least one classroom is smaller than the state-mandated size of 960 square feet.
