D.A. Investigator Accused of Kickback Scandal Ties

The county public defender's office says the investigator was involved in "criminal activity" with an athletic equipment supplier implicated in a high school sports scandal. The D.A. denies it.

From Voice of OC:

A court filing by the Orange County public defender's office claims that the district attorney declined to file charges in an alleged kickback scheme involving high school coaches and a sports equipment supplier because one of its top investigators was involved in similar “criminal activity” with the same company.

The allegation follows the D.A.'s decision to not file charges against three Capistrano Unified School District coaches allegedly involved in a kickback scheme with Laguna Hills-based Lapes Athletic Team Sales. An earlier investigation by Capistrano Unified found that the coaches accepted bribes from Lapes Athletic Team Sales and stole more than $80,000 from the district.

“The District Attorney’s Office has failed to pursue the matter despite sufficient evidence, giving rise to the appearance of protecting its own,” Deputy Public Defender Adam Vining claimed in a motion filed last month.

The D.A. says Vining's assertions are baseless.

“In order to defend the criminal actions of their client, the public defender made these unfounded, inflammatory accusations that are misleading and completely unrelated to the charges against their client,” the D.A.’s office wrote in a statement.

TS SCHS and SC are reaping the "benefits" of voting in the teachers union lackeys to the CUSD board,.deficit spending, multimillion dollar deficits, larger class sizes and up to 15 furlough days, in addition to the Lapes scandal. You and other like minded citizens would be better served by voting for candidates not controlled or endorsed by the teachers union.

The motion to fire Coach Patton and two other coaches was passed unanimously by all trustees, not just the union-backed trustees. http://sanjuancapistrano.patch.com/articles/trustees-fire-three-football-coaches-caught-up-in-kickback-scandal

The Trustees and the administration are all to be blamed for the fiasco involving the coaches. The thug hired by the district did a half ass job on a report likely at the orders of Farley (regardless of Farley's involvement the report by the district's hired hack is full of holes and the investigator's flawed opinions used by the Patch and the OC Register to publicly humiliate and tar and feather great coaches). Why did Saddleback react so differently with the same skewed information (perhaps they KNEW it would never stick in an administrative hearing)? Why have no other districts in California or any District Attorneys for that matter prosecuted their coaches (because there was no fraud, no embezzlement, no criminal wrongdoing)? This is exactly what is happening to OPA. A very public display of chest beating, and for what? In the end the Capo Unified District is ridiculous, the Trustees allow it to happen, and all should be voted out and we should start new (including a new superintendent with some ethics and a little common sense).

Please identify those trustees you categorize as "union backed."
