Tesoro Gets New Principal for 2013-14

The Capistrano Unified School District's trustees tapped an assistant principal from Garden Grove.

An assistant principal in the Garden Grove Unified School District will take the helm at Tesoro High School.

Marc Patterson is currently at Bolsa Grande High School. The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the appointment 7-0 Monday morning in a special meeting.

Dan Burch, who opened Tesoro in 2001, announced in January he would retire at the end of this school year.

According to a CUSD press release, Patterson began his career in education as an elementary school teacher in the Westminster School District in 1997. He moved on to serve as an assistant principal at a middle school, before becoming a middle school principal in 2002.

He earned his undergraduate degree in history from CSU Fullerton and his teaching credential and graduate degree from CSU Long Beach.

“Marc brings a wealth of curriculum, instruction, and professional development experience to Tesoro High School, which will assist in the transition to the Common Core,” Superintendent Joe Farley said in a press release.

“In addition, his work as a teacher and administrative leader provides him the valuable and necessary communication skills to be successful in all of the facets required of a high school principal.”
