Trabuco Hills Marching Band Named Grand Champ

Thundering Mustangs win regional annual marching band championships in Fresno.

Trabuco Hills took top honors on Saturday when the Thundering Mustangs marching unit was named Class A/AA/AAA Grand Champion at the Western Band Association's top annual competition.

Under the direction of Dr. Howard Stephens, Trabuco Hills won the Marching Band Championship for units with 100 or fewer members. The Thundering Mustangs have just about 100, including one eighth-grader from Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate.

They performed their program titled "Music from a Circus Slightly Left of Center," which included the selections “Scenes from a Psychotic Circus” by Key Poulan and “Ritual Fire Dance” by Larry Kerchner.

The band was led by senior drum majors Charles Denton and Angela Ni, and sophomore Jael Espinoza.

The event was held at Fresno Central Unified High's Deran Koligian Stadium.

Students interested in joining the Thundering Mustangs are encouraged to speak to their own school’s musical director or Trabuco Hills' Stephens.
