Key to Awesomeness: When it comes to music, Daniel Hur believes in taking things one step beyond. Daniel is a budding clarinet player who takes weekly lessons at Suwardi Studios in Rancho Santa Margarita. He has studied clarinet technique, repertoire, music theory, composition, arranging and clarinet history. He is particularly fond of scales and has challenged himself in this area, mastering major and minor scales and successfully learning a 2 ½ octave chromatic scale. He also diligently studies music history and classical music and has a strong desire to learn how to play his favorite pieces on the clarinet.
Currently, Daniel is learning how to play arrangements of Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer,” Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and Beethoven’s “Fur Elise.” Daniel has used his music theory instruction to create an arrangement of “When the Saints Go Marching In” for two clarinets. He has also used his knowledge of composition to write his newest piece, “Fire and Ice.”
A sixth-grade student at Capistrano Valley Christian School, Daniel is on the honor roll and has been recognized for exceptional academic effort in Advanced Math at the junior high level.
For his initiative and dedication to music, as well as his outstanding academic performance, Daniel is this week's Whiz Kid.
