With High School Prom Tonight, Council Urges Teens Not to Drink and Drive
'There's no such thing as too much awareness on this issue,' says council member Jerry Holloway.
With Santa Margarita High School's prom tonight, a Rancho Santa Margarita councilmember urged teens not to drink and drive.
Following councilman Jerry Holloway asked Patch during a May 25 City Council meeting to remind locals about the dangers of mixing vehicles and alcohol.
“There’s no such thing as too much awareness on this issue,” said Holloway, dean of students at Santa Margarita.

A retired lieutenant of the Costa Mesa Police Department, Holloway said that with prom season coming up he wants all parents to keep an eye on their kids.

“We’ve got to get this community through this season without any accidents or injuries,” he said.
Holloway also asked the City Clerk if they could add a link to the on the city’s website.
The high schools prom runs from 7 p.m. to midnight today at the Grand Ballroom at the Disneyland Hotel.
Other business
- Rancho Santa Margarita in parks in the city, said councilman Steve Baric.
- Steve Hayman, the city manager, announced that the Rancho Santa Margarita Relay for Life is coming up June 11-12.
- City Hall will be closed Memorial Day.
