DeBusk: "I Don't Think Anybody Got Short-Changed"

Jerry DeBusk, the retiring Santa Margarita basketball coach of 20 years, reflects on his final home game and a lifetime of coaching.

Jerry DeBusk coached his last home playoff game on Tuesday, and tonight will guide his Santa Margarita Catholic boys' basketball team onto the floor against the top-seeded team in Southern Section Division 3A.

The game against Mission League champion Alemany could be the last of DeBusk's 20-year run at SMCHS, or it could be another exclamation mark in a career filled with exclamation marks. But it won't be easy; Alemany (26-4) is playing at home and is a "Trinity League-like" opponent, DeBusk said. Santa Margarita finished fifth in the Trinity League.

The long road trip ahead of him to play in Mission Hills, DeBusk reflected on the long road behind him after his team beat Corona del Mar in the Southern Section quarterfinals on Tuesday.
