Santa Margarita's Tuerk Commits to Trojans

Eagles' junior offensive tackle spurns numerous offers from other colleges, including UCLA and Notre Dame, to accept USC's offer the same day it's made.

Max Tuerk, Santa Margarita's outstanding junior offensive lineman, committed to play football at USC this morning.

Tuerk, who is 6 feet 6 and 296 pounds and also plays defensive end for the Eagles, had nearly 30 offers from which to choose, including ones from Notre Dame, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Arizona State as well as Nebraska. USC reportedly made its offer this morning, and Tuerk accepted.

"I knew it was the perfect place for me and I wasted no time committing," Tuerk said in a press release issued by the high school. "This has been the most exciting moment of my entire life. It's probably the biggest decision I have ever made. I feel so comfortable there and it as the perfect fit for me as a player.

Tuerk's coach at Santa Margarita, Harry Welch, said, "I gave my complete support. This is a great day to be an Eagle and a great day for the Tuerk family. It's a great moment when a player gets a full-ride to USC. When Lane [Kiffin, the Trojans' head coach] called Max, he just lit up."

He becomes the second South Orange County football player to commit this week to the Trojans, who landed Mission Viejo junior running back on Monday.
