Football: Mission Viejo 35, San Marcos Mission Hills 21

Diablos remain unbeaten with a victory behind three of its transfers. Alex Suchesk led the way by rushing for three touchdowns.

When Alex Suchesk transferred from Santa Margarita to Mission Viejo a few weeks ago, people figured he would make a difference. He showed just what kind of gamebreaker he could be on Friday night.

Suchesk ran for three touchdowns as the Diablos scored a 35-21 nonleague victory over visiting San Marcos Mission Hills.

Suchesk carried 19 times for 87 yards and three short scores as Mission Viejo won for the second time in two games.

It was a good night for Mission's newest faces. Ian Fieber, a junior quarterback who transferred from Orange Lutheran, passed for 280 yards and a touchdown to yet another transfer, Sean Modster, who also transferred from Santa Margarita.

Modster scored on a 69-yard bomb to give Mission Viejo a 14-0 lead. It was one of seven catches by Modster, who accounted for nearly half of Fieber's completions and 175 yards.

Fieber completed 15 of 24 passes, with one interception.

The other touchdown for Mission came from Marcus Collins, who scored from five yards to give the Diablos a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter.

Suchesk wasn't perfect; on a halfback pass, his short throw was intercepted and returned six yards for a touchdown that cut Mission's lead to 28-14.

Mission Viejo, which has scored 35 points in both its games, will play next week against Corona Santiago, one of the better teams from the Big VIII League in the Inland Empire.
