Football: Mission Viejo 84, Aliso Niguel 22

Ian Fieber throws three touchdown passes and the Diablos score in all three facets of the game to set a school scoring record.

Mission Viejo scored from everywhere, and often, as the Diablos set a single-game scoring record against Aliso Niguel.

In a battle of undefeated teams, Mission Viejo's the one that stood out as it scored an 84-22 nonleague victory over Aliso Niguel on Friday.

Aliso Niguel put up 56 passes in an attempt to keep up with the Diablos' track meet, but there was no keeping up.

Mission Viejo led at halftime, 63-14. The Diablos are ranked No. 2 in the Orange County top 10 poll, and No. 8 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports.

Mission Viejo (5-0) scored 21 in the first quarter, 42 in the second, 14 in the third and seven in the fourth. The Diablos broke their school scoring record, a 70-7 victory against Aliso in 2009—the last time the teams played.

Aliso (4-1) is the first Orange County opponent Mission has faced this season.

Mission's offense rushed for 177 yards and passed for 193. Ian Fieber passed for 121 yards and three touchdowns, and he and Brett Tenhoff were a combined 13 for 13 passing.

Aliso's Nathan Cole completed 34 of 56 for 302 yards and; four passes were intercepted. Two TD passes went to Alijah Arnold, the other to Anthony Ventura. Cole's first TD, a 9-yarder to Arnold, cut Mission's lead to 21-7.

Not only did Mission's offense play well, but Max Redfield (37 yards) and Steve Macke (43 yards) returned interceptions for touchdowns, and Carlos Rodriguez returned a fumble 6 yards on a kickoff.

Fieber completed touchdown passes for Frank Schnicker (12 yards), Sean Modster (35) and Redfield (26).

Alex Suchesk rushed for a game-high 79 yards and three touchdowns, including one of 20 yards, and Marcus Collins scored from 13 to make it a 14-0 game.

Redfield also recovered a muffed punt at the 5, setting up a Suchesk TD on the next play.

In the second half, backup quarterback Brett Tenhoff threw scoring passes of 21 and 43 yards to Andrew Schuurs and Adrien Whiteside.

Mission Viejo will get a tougher workout next week when it plays one of the stronger programs from the Inland Empire, Redlands East Valley (1-2).

Aliso Niguel will play next Thursday against Woodridge (2-2) at Irvine High.
