Football: Tesoro 24, Chino Hills 14

Nate Tago is the difference-maker as the Titans remain undefeated.

If there was any doubt about Tesoro's most valuable player, Nate Tago made a pretty good argument on Friday that he's The One.

Tago scored scored twice early and once late to lead Tesoro a 24-14 victory over Chino Hills on Friday.

The start of the road victory was delayed about 20 minutes because the Titans' bus broke down.

Tago nearly broke down too, suffering a leg injury that kept him on the sidelines for much of the second and third quarters.

But on the bread sides of the sandwich, the Tago tango was fantastic. He scored on a 65-yard run and a 28-yard reception from Matt Adam to give Tesoro (3-0) a 14-0 lead. In his absence, Chino Hills (1-1-1) pulled to within 17-14.

But in the fourth quarter, Tago came back into the game and put it out of reach with a 20-yard touchdown run.

When the night was over, Tago had 23 carries for 227 yards and proof that he's the key to the Titan offense.

Last week, Tesoro scored a 10-7 victory over Newhall Hart, which had been the No. 1 team in the Southern Section Northern Division rankings.

In beating Chino Hills, the Titans defeated a team that tied La Puente Bishop Amat which notably defeated Servite. The Huskies went into the game 41 and 48 points, but mounted little against a Tesoro defense that has held opponents to 35 points in three games.

Tesoro's opponent next Friday at home will be Ontario Colony (0-3).
