Football: Tesoro 30, San Clemente 14

South Coast League: Titans have to come from behind against a gritty San Clemente squad to clinch second place.

Tesoro rebounded from its loss to Mission Viejo last week slowly, falling behind by two touchdowns, before catching fire and beating San Clemente. 

The Titans have completed South Coast League play and will finish second to Mission in the standings and will advance to the Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs. They play a nonleague game next week.

Key Stats: Jon Rivera rushed 34 times for 182 yards and touchdowns of 2 and 5 yards, the latter which gave Tesoro its first lead, 17-14, midway through the third quarter.

Pivotal Moment: Midway through the second quarter, trailing by two touchdowns, Tesoro switched to a no huddle offense. Notes:  Devon Modster passed for 199 yards, giving Tesoro good balance. He threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Garn with 1:32 left in the game. … Modster had a big fourth quarter; in addition to the scoring pass, he ran for a 1-yard touchdown with 10:20 left to give the Titans a 23-14 lead (the PAT failed). … San Clemente looked like it was heading for an upset. The Tritons took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
