Golf: Hossler Leads SMCHS to Section Championship

Beau Hossler fires a 6-under 65 as Santa Margarita holds off Long Beach Wilson to win the Southern Section team championship.

It helps to have a built-in advantage, and any time Beau Hossler steps on the golf course these days, he's an advantage for Santa Margarita Catholic.

Hossler shot a 6-under 65 at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course and led the Eagles to a five-stroke victory over Long Beach Wilson in the Southern Section Team Championship

Hossler seems to be on a tear. The third-ranked junior golfer in the country, he won the Trinity League title with a 4-under 31 at Willowick Golf Course to win the Trinity League title.

On Thursday, had seven birdies and won medalist honors by five strokes as the Eagles became the fourth consecutive Trinity League team to win the title.

Servite had won the last three titles.

Other county teams in the tournament included fifth-place Mater Dei (377), ninth-place Corona del Mar (385), and 14th-place Los Alamitos (395).

Santa Margarita got the last spot in the tournament by placing third on Monday in the section's Western Regional by placing six strokes ahead of Servite. At that tournament, Hossler shot a 4-under 67 at Sierra La Verne Country Club.

Santa Margarita posted a 364, followed by Wilson (370), Temecula Great Oak (373) and Santa Barbara (374). Those four schools qualified for the state championship qualifier, the SCGA Southern California Championships.

The State meet is June 6.
