Hossler's Not Dialed In at AT&T National

The local teenager, competing in his first PGA Tour event, doesn't carry the same magic of two weeks ago at the U.S. Open.

After the first round of the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club, 17-year-old Beau Hossler was ahead of Tiger Woods.

Two days later, Hossler is done and Woods is eyeing a victory.

Hossler won't be completing the golf tournament after shooting a 77 during the third round on Saturday to fall to 8-over par 222, which is 16 strokes behind leader Brendon de Jonge and 15 behind Woods.

It was Woods, the host of the tournament, who granted Hossler a sponsor's exemption that allowed him to participate in his first PGA Tour event. Hossler, who qualified for and —and briefly led in the second round and was in the top 10 after three rounds—is going to be a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High when school resumes in the fall.

Woods, with rounds of 72-68-67, is tied for second place at 6-under 207 with Bo Van Pelt and Sung-Yul Noh. Second-round leader Hunter Mahan is tied for fifth place at 208.

It's the second time the Mission Viejo resident has faced Congressional. in the U.S. Open, in which he shot 76-77 and missed the cut. Among the other golfers who finished Saturday's round at 222 was Davis Love III, who has 34 career victories including the PGA Championship, and Justin Leonard, who has 12 Tour victories including the Open Championship in 1997.

The last amateur to win a PGA event was Phil Mickelson, who won the Northern Telecom Open in 1991.
