Liem Paces Tesoro Boys at Division I Prelims

Senior finishes seventh in Heat 3 at Mt. San Antonio College, but Titans fall one place short of qualifying for CIF-Souther Section's championships.

Warren Liem finished seventh in Heat 3 of the CIF-Southern Section Division I preliminaries on Nov. 13 at Mt. San Antonio College.

The senior posted a time of 15 minutes 49 seconds on the three-mile course, but the Titans accumulated 141 points and a team time of 1:23:03) to finish fifth,  just missing out on advancing to the section's finals, also at Mt. SAC, on Nov. 20.

The top four teams in each of Division I's four heats advanced.

Heat 4 team results:  1. El Toro 47 (118:59); 2. Rancho Cucamonga 56 (1:19:44); 3. Troy 91 (1:20:51); 4. Yucaipa 120 (1:22:19).

Tesoro sophomore Baylor Harper clocked a time of 16:38 to finish 25th, followed by senior Erik Peterson (16:38) in 29th, senior Cameron Fasola (16:52) in 37th, sophomore Bryce Torres (17:10) in 50th, freshman Brandon Boval (17:29) in 58th and junior David Morrow (17:53) in 72nd.

The Division I team qualifiers: 1. Arcadia 1:18:29; 2. Trabuco Hills 1:18:55; 3. El Toro 1:18:59; 4. Rancho Cucamonga 1:19:44; 5. Long Beach Poly 1:19:48; 6. Marina 1:20:22; 7. Dana Hills 1:20:31; 8. Troy 1:20:51; 9. Corona 1:20:53; 10. Great Oak 1:21:11; 11. M.L. King 1:22:00; 12. California (Whittier) 1:22:01; 13. Burroughs/Burbank 1:22:07; 14. Redlands East Valley 1:22:15; 15. The top time among Division I runners was Arcadia senior Ammar Moussa's 15:02, and the top time of the day overall was Loyola senior Elias Gedyon's 14:43. The top overall team time of the day was Loyola's 1:17:43.

Tesoro Boys Cross-Country Roundup:

Senior Warren Liem completed the three-mile course at Laguna Hills High in 15:46 to finish in second place and help Tesoro to a third-place team finish in the Sea View League finals on Nov. 4.

The Titans totaled 53 points and a team time of 1:21:46 to finish behind champion San Juan Hills (31 points and 1:20:15) and Capistrano Valley (43 and 1:21:09). All three qualified for the Southern Section preliminaries on Nov. 13 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Bryce Torres clocked a time of  16:12 to finish seventh, followed by sophomore Baylor Harper (16:30) in 12th, senior Erik Peterson (16:33) in 14th, senior Cameron Fasola (16:45) in 18th, freshman Brandon Boval (16:53) in 22nd and junior David Morrow (17:22) in 30th.

Top 10 individuals: 1. Brandon Pugh (San Juan Hills) 15:28); 2. Warren Liem (Tesoro) 15:46; 3. Devin Hanrahan (Capistrano Valley) 15:48; 4. Jacob Hurley (Capistrano Valley) 15:57; 5. Matteo Stradiotto (San Juan Hills) 15:59; 6. Jacob St. Onge (San Juan Hills) 16:04; 7. Bryce Torres (Tesoro) 16:12; 8. Ricardo Medina (San Juan Hills) 16:17; 9. Kevin Hurley (Capistrano Valley) 16:21; 10. Connor Naasz (Capistrano Valley) 16:23.

The team finishes: 1. San Juan Hills 31 (1:20:15); 2. Capistrano Valley 43 (1:21:09; 3. Tesoro 53 (1:21:46); 4. Laguna Hills 123 (1:27.01); 5. Mission Viejo 136 (1:28:33).

The Titans finished 12th overall with a time of 1:21.53 among the teams participating in the five non-sweepstakes Division I races of the Mt. SAC Invitational on Oct. 23 at Mt. San Antonio College.

College Park High took top honors with a team time of 1:19.16.

Tesoro senior Warren Liem completed the three-mile course in a team-best 15:39, followed by sophomore Baylor Harper (16:08), senior Cameron Fasola (16:32), senior Erik Peterson (16:45), freshman Brandon Boval (16:49) and junior David Morrow (17:06).

The Tritons' Sea View League rivals competed in different division races but posted the following team times: San Juan Hills, 1:20.04; Capistrano Valley, 1:22.05; Mission Viejo (1:31.00) and Laguna Hills, 1:32.49.

Senior Warren Liem completed the three-mile course at Irvine Regional Park in a time of 15:14 to finish 22nd in the sweepstakes race of the 44th annual Orange County Championships on Oct. 16.

Tesoro finished 19th in the sweepstakes race with 450 points.

Senior Erik Peterson clocked a time of 16:07 to finish in 78th place, followed by junior David Morrow (17:10) in 113th and Cameron Fasola (17:13) in 114th.

Tesoro's Warren Liem finished fifth in 14:51 in the Division I senior race at the 37th annual Dana Hills Invitational Sept. 25 at Dana Hills High.

Liem's time was the seventh-best time among Division I runners and the eighth best time of the day among all runners.

Warren Liem of Tesoro finished first in the Blue Division (Division I) senior boys race in a time of 15:13 at the Woodbridge Cross-Country Classic on Sept. 18 at Estancia High. The Titans placed fourth with 157 points behind Indio (95), Arcadia (127) and Vista Del Lago (153).

Bryce Torres finished third (16:36.28) and Baylor Harper was fourth (16:40.28) in the Division I sophomore boys race on Sept. 11 at the Laguna Hills Invitational at Laguna Hills High.
