Rancho Santa Margarita Has Olympic Input

Towns throughout the United States are sending athletes and representatives to the Summer Games in London. RSM is no different.

Athletes from around the world have converged on London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Over the next two weeks heroes will be made, champions will fail and the world will watch.

Rancho Santa Margarita will have a hand in the Olympic story as well.

Peter Vidmar of Coto de Caza is the Chairman of the Board of USA Gymnastics, which means he'll be highly visible during the games; gymnastics—either artistic or rhythmic—is contested for all but three of the 16 days of competition beginning Saturday.

Although no athletes from Rancho Santa Margarita are competing in the games—at least that we've been able to find— and Sean Furey have strong connections.

Dooley is an alternate on the men's trampoline after finishing second in the Olympic trials in San Jose. A resident of Lake Forest, Dooley trains out of in RSM.

Trampoline competes Aug. 3-4.

Furey will compete in the javelin throw. A resident of San Diego, he trains under the guidance of former Olympic javelin thrower Todd Reich at in RSM, a 13,000 square foot facility that provides specialized training as well as physical therapy.
