Soccer Playoffs: Roundup of Tuesday Regional Games

Santa Margarita wastes little time in an easy first-round win, while Aliso Niguel scored a close victory in Division I.

Four goals in nine minutes. That's the bomb that Santa Margarita Catholic dropped on Arleta in the first round of the Southern California Regional Championships for girls' soccer.

The top-seeded Eagles, hoping to win the Division II title, seized control early and scored a 7-0 victory over Arleta at Santa Ana Stadium on Tuesday.

Arleta (14-5-4), a Los Angeles City Section team, finished third in the East Valley League but won the City's Invitational Division title for teams that weren't selected to play in the Championship Division.

Kassidy Gorman scored twice and had an assist for Santa Margarita (17-5-3), which will play a semifinal on Thursday, 3 p.m., against Glendora St. Lucy's, a winner in penalty kicks, 3-1, over fourth-seeded Clovis North after a scoreless regulation and overtime. The game will be played at Santa Ana Stadium.

The one-sidedness of the matchup was apparent from the outset as Santa Margarita scored twice in the first two minutes, on goals by Bryce Ziemer and Heather Walleigh. Two minutes later, Alaina Arthur made it 3-0, and in the ninth minute, Gorman scored the first of two consecutive goals.
