Trabuco Canyon Shut Down, Must Win 2 Saturday

Junior All-Stars fall behind early and have no answer for La Mirada pitcher Robert Lan.

Just a few days after scoring 20 runs and dominating the South Sub-Division tournament, the Trabuco Canyon Junior All-Stars got a chance to be tested.

Really tested.

And fell short.

Way short.

The District 68 champs managed just two hits Friday and lost to La Mirada, 9-1, in the Southern California Divisional Championship, a best two-of-three series at Santa Ana's Memorial Park.

To win the title now, Trabuco Canyon must beat District 29 champ La Mirada twice, with a first game beginning at noon and the if necessary game following.

The lone highlight for Trabuco Canyon, which is 11-3 in tournament play, was a first-inning home run by Justin Tropp, but even that was tempered because TC had given up three runs in the top of the inning.

La Mirada made it 4-1 in the third, and added to the lead with scores in the last thee innings of the seven inning contest.

Jack Janett took the loss, but was one of four Trabuco Canyon pitchers who were unable to break down the La Mirada lineup, which had 11 hits.

Meanwhile, La Mirada pitcher Robert Lan struck out 11 en route to a two-hitter. The only person to get a hit besides Tropp was Kyle Fox.

La Mirada has won eight games in a row.

"We're more than capable of winning two (on Saturday)," Trabuco Canyon manager Michael Gaggiano told the Orange County Register. "It will be our toughest challenge, but the boys have been resilient all year. They believe in themselves."
