Football: Trabuco Hills Rides the Stallions Hard

With Mitchell Simonsen on the sidelines, Trabuco Hills scores seven of the first eight touchdowns in an easy end to the nonleague portion of the schedule.

Mitchell Simonsen had a pulled groin, but Trabuco Hills didn't pull any punches when it stepped on the field Thursday against San Juan Hills. The Mustangs scored a 48-14 football victory over the Stallions at Tesoro High.

It was the last nonleague game for Trabuco (5-1), which debuted in the Orange County Top 10 this week. Simonsen had rushed for more than 198 yards in three of his last four games, but needs to be healthy next week when South Coast League play opens against another top 10 team, No. 5 San Clemente (5-0). That game won't be nearly as easy.

Simonsen was spelled by Garret Hartman, who rushed for 90 yards and totaled three touchdowns, and quarterback Jonathan Newsom returned to the lineup from an injury to pass for 289 yards and four touchdowns—two to Matt Kirkland.
