Vu Leads Locals to SoCal Regionals in Golf

Andre Vu, a week removed from sharing 15th place in the section divisional, challenged for the Southern Section Boys' Individual Golf Championship Monday in Lompoc.

A senior from Fountain Valley, Vu finished two strokes behind champion Rico Hoey of Rancho Cucamonga, who carded a 69 at picturesque La Purisima Golf Course.

Vu shot a 71, so he also trailed KiTaek Lee of La Quinta, but lost a two-hole playoff and finished fourth overall.

Justin de Los Santos of West Hills Chaminade won the playoff for third place, which also included Branon Tsujimoto of La Verne Damien.

Gordon Neale, who won last week's Southern Section Southern Division championship, did not participate in the event.

The top 28 players and four teams from the Southern Section team qualifier advance to the CIF/SCGA SoCal Regional Boys' Golf Championship on May 30 at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena.

Among others that advanced to the regional were freshman Clay Feagler of Dana Hills, who tied for ninth with a 74, and senior Chase Wheatley of Corona del Mar, who tied for 17th with a 76.

Senior Robert Deng and junior James Frahm of St. Margaret's withdrew, having qualified with their team.
