A look at what's going down and coming up for Rancho Santa Margarita and residents of the surrounding area.

• Want to send your child to private school but will need financial aid to do so? If you don't want to just call the target school, you can attend a seminar tonight, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Hilton Anaheim, to learn how the financial aid process works. Click here for more details

• Today is the last day to RSVP for the Thursday, 5 p.m., grand opening of Park Terrace's Connections memory care neighborhood for seniors. There will be a ribbon cutting, auction and food and beverage. Click here for more details.

• A networking mixer presented by the Rancho Santa Margarita Chamber of Commerce is Tuesday, 5:30 p.m., at Canyon Fireside Grill. The two-hour event is free to members, $15 for non-members.

• Planning commissioners in Rancho Santa Margarita gather Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. Among the items they'll be discussing is granting permits of a personal fitness studio in Antonio Plaza called Orangetheory Fitness, and moving David Kang's Taekwondo Center from Dove Canyon Plaza to the Saddleback Esperanza Business Park. They meet at City Hall.

• A daylong San Francisco Solano MOPS Holiday Boutique is Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., at San Francisco Solano Catholic Church. Raffle prizes and shopping—what could be better? Click here for more details

• Rancho Santa Margarita NJB registration is under way. Player evaluations are Sunday, and also Nov. 17, for the season that begins on Nov. 24. It's for boys and girls of all basketball skills up to eighth grade. Click here for more details

• The fifth annual Performance Breakthrough Conference is presented Thursday, 6:30 p.m., by South County Chapter of the BYU Management Society, along with many non-LDS civic and community groups. Free workshops include High-Performance Success Habits, Leveraging LinkedIn, the Art of Persuasion, and Building Your Personal Brand. There is also a keynote speech by Mark Hobbins, CEO of Family IQ. Registration is 6 p.m Click here for more details

• The regular season portion of high school football ends on Friday, and it could be the last game in the incredibly successful coaching career of Harry Welch; if his team at Santa Margarita Catholic doesn't beat JSerra in the Trinity League finale at Saddleback College, it will be the final entry in a log that currently has 256 wins, 59 losses, 2 ties in 25 seasons. Other local games include Mission Viejo at El Toro and San Clemente at Trabuco Hills in the South Coast League, and Tesoro playing host to Chula Vista in a nonleague tilt. On Sunday, playoff pairings will be released. Mission and Tesoro are in, Santa Margarita hopes to get in; Trabuco Hills is out.

• A rummage sale at Community Lutheran Church runs Saturday, 7-11 a.m., with proceeds going to a parking lot resurfacing project. Click here for more details.

• The boys' soccer team at Tesoro High will present its second Holiday Boutique with food and merchandise vendors, as well as a raffle in the Titan Gym on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Click here for more details.

• It's out of the way, but it's also something everyone should do at least once in their lives: Attend an NHRA National drag racing event. The season-ending event at Pomona Raceway on the L.A. County Fairgrounds, the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, has qualifying Thursday through Saturday (which will have two rounds of qualifying) with the race Sunday. John Force of Yorba Linda, a self-described "64-year-old truck driver," has already won his 16th Funny Car championship, but Top Fuel dragster is still up for grabs. Feel the ground shake as cars drag race at more than 300 mph. A word to the wise: Bring ear plugs.

• Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy will perform Thursday at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and he'll be followed Friday by Queensryche. Tickets are $75 for the guitar master, $39.50 for the metal band.

• Next Monday is Veterans Day, and the second annual O.C. Supports Our Troops Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club. It benefits the Semper Fi Fund, which assists injured and critically ill members of the U.S. armed forces and their families. You'll want to register, or become a sponsor, this week. Click here for more details.

• Another event on Nov. 11 that you'll want to RSVP for ahead of time is a free evening seminar at Spa Gregorie's titled "Breaking Free From Emotional Toxins." Click here for more details.
