Briefing RSM, Thru Sept. 1: Football Kicks Off, WWII Is Recalled

Worthwhile notes for Rancho Santa Margarita-area residents.

By Martin Henderson

Taking a look at what's going down and coming up for residents in the Rancho Santa Margarita area.

• High school football begins this week—it's technically called Zero Week but the State could do everyone a favor by calling it Week 1. On Friday, Tesoro plays host to La Mirada, Trabuco Hills plays at Dana Hills, Mission Viejo plays in Hawaii against Baldwin, and Santa Margarita Catholic plays at La Puente Bishop Amat. That Margarita-Amat game should be awesome.

• Hear about history straight from those who lived it. Veterans of World War II will be at San Francisco Solano Catholic Church on Tuesday relaying their experiences and taking questions. It's recommended you bring a dish for the potluck at 6 p.m. Representatives of the Army, Navy and Marines will be present.

• Friday is a campout at Etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest celebrating the end of summer. Lots of fun activities, including midnight madness, are promised. Cost is $30 per person. Click here for details.

• Do you feel lucky this Labor Day? Sunday is a charity bingo marathon at the Elks Lodge in Mission Viejo. There's a $20 buy-in, and it begins at 8 a.m. Click here for more details.

• There is no City Council meeting this week.

• Today, Aug. 26, is National Dog Day, and also Women's Equality Day. Draw your own conclusions.
