A walk-up ATM at the new Opus Bank, in black on the screen, caused concern for RSM planning commissioners (left to right) Mike Vaughn, Mark McQuaid and Peter Whittingham. Photo/Martin Henderson

While I am normally supportive of Businesses in RSM, I have to agree w the comments from theRead More Planning Commission on this project. That corner is extremely difficult to get in and out of. With an ATM there, people will likely tend to pull in and use the ATM, then back out into traffic. If it was angled parking in front of the building might be a way to mitigate it. I realize that a couple of parking spaces will be lost by angling, but might be worth considering.
Roland Denzel June 7, 2013 at 07:53 am
That whole parking lot is a nightmare. I agree that angling that entire strip would be a good idea,Read More not only for the ATM, but for all of those other quick in and out businesses (starbucks, donuts, etc.). Also, start enforcing the 20 minute parking!

A point of clarification. From the photo and story, it sounds like there were three commissioners atRead More the meeting who expressed concern. I was also there. I made the suggestion of continuing this item in order to get baseline data, since everyone is aware of the bottleneck at that location, but it has not been measured. We are looking forward to receiving that data prior to considering this item again.

They would most likely prefer those who are not on "budgets". We would get the passes butRead More try not to eat more than one meal and we don't buy souvenirs either.

We always get a season pass, because the break even point was three days. Now it's eight- yikes! IRead More still love it and we'll still visit, it's just a bitter pill to swallow.
ahargado June 5, 2013 at 02:08 pm
And still they appear to have an employee morale problem ? When you have $5.7 BILLION in profit onRead More only $42 BILLION in revenue every year, it means you have a special value that few can substitute.

As others have noted, really good work to trace the trail...as they always say, 'follow the money'.

Upscale Resale is South County Outreach's thrift store in Laguna Hills. All proceeds support SCO'sRead More programs to fight hunger and homelessness. Donations for Upscale can be dropped off at Ritz Cleaners in Dove Plaza where they are picked up regularly. Ritz is a great business with terrific employees who believe in helping others! Upscale has a paid manager - all the rest of the staff are volunteers, of which I am one. SCO is on a scale with Salvation Army, Assistance League, Cancer Society, and hospital thrift stores. SCO/Upscale benefits folks right here in south Orange County! Every item donated is utilized in some manner. We at Upscale are diligent about maximizing what is given. Thank you, Penny, for this outstanding piece of investigative journalism. Major media outlets could use you and others of your calibre. WOW!

Thats a tough plaza to run a business out of due to its "hidden" location. I wish themRead More all the luck, and will have to stop by and give it a try.

Martin, thanks for the recommendation. Decided to try two since sandwiches are small and I'm a bigRead More guy. Bad decision, one was very filling and the taste was great. The second is in the fridge waiting for me to get home. I would like to nominate the Jalapeno Poppers as the pick of the week. What a great city. We now have grilled cheese and waffle sandwiches. Wonder what a good tread mill would cost?

Greetings, First, don't get too excited. My bet is that #2 does reopen at 70% (which I support,Read More btw, I am a 20+ year San Clemente resident, not the usual loud environmentalist type imported from LA or SF.) But even if they do shutter it permanently, note that half of the comments here are irrelevant. Even if they shut it down, San Clemente remains without an Evac plan, and the site will continue to need one. There is no place to move even 1 oz, of the tons of radioactive materials. They could spend billions (add an extra few hundreds a year to your electric bill forever), tearing the site down. Even then there is exactly 0 chance that they will be allowed to move the nuke waste. There is no place in the US that will take it. As long as Harry Reid runs the Senate, he will continue use every ounce of power he has to prevent the US to have a nuke waste facility. So, we will be in essentially about the same amount of danger, whether #2 starts up, or not, now and 20 years from now. Perhaps you environmentalists out there could allow the 241 to be finished. That way you might just save 50,000 lives once the terrorists or earthquakes, or tsunamis do their thing. (oops, that would require some compromise, sorry, for suggesting it.) Oh well, San Clemente residents glowing in the dark could be fun for a while, we'll need less electric for street lights.

Bill for FAA relief is currently zipping through Congress and Obama has promised to sign it. OurRead More brand of Republican Democracy isn't about an iron-willed President telling everyone what to do. Don't like how the Executive branch spends money? A willing Congress can cut specific funding. If Obama doesn't sign the FAA bill, Congress can--and most likely will-- override the veto.
Joker Joe April 29, 2013 at 11:54 am
RHighlands Correct me if I am wrong. The president could of allocated the monies betterRead More regardless of congress. Maybe something like executive orders?
RHighlands April 30, 2013 at 07:43 pm
It's true, congress could have foreseen the budgetary impact of the sequester cuts and allocatedRead More money to programs it deems more important ---far in advance. Congress did not. If the Executive branch sidesteps all or part of the budgetary items Congress is squabbling over it would set up Obama to look like number of things: a softie, willing to approve funds without a budget; dismissive of Congress, approving funds by edict; an uncontrolled liberal spender, ignoring sequester guidelines; a demagogue, feigning disaster if he doesnt get his way; a dictator, ignoring the wishes of the American people, etc. most of the former are common conservative pejorative Obama comments now.--An Executive Order would only reinforce this silliness .. I am not an Obama lover -- this is a Congressionally created problem. The insistence of some that, because Congress can't get its crap together, the budget mess is the result of the Executive Branch of the Federal govt, sounds like whining and finger pointing. The budget is one of the main Congressioal duties! In the Constitution!

The stats are correct. You are no longer "counted" as unemployed/underemployed Marie.Read More The media has generally done a pretty bad job of covering the employment situation, covering the U3 rate (narrowly defined "Unemployment Rate") instead of the U6 rate ("Labor Force Participation Rate"). I don't know if this is laziness, ignorance or willful cheerleading. I have read that the LFPR may be stuck at high levels through the middle of the next decade. http://www.nojobsurvivor.com/No-Job-News/unemployment-situation-u3-u6-rates.html

Looks like the state of California has found another cash cow, at of all places the Happiest PlaceRead More on Earth!!! Question, were do the fines go? Guess who pays these fines, certainly isn't Disney!! Matter of time before the blood sucking attorney's and the Bureaucrats force Disney out of California.
Friends in Ohio April 17, 2013 at 08:48 pm
The Disney company always fights against anything that shows they have done wrong. They won't everRead More admit that they may have done something wrong or the actions of their employees could actually have been bad. My father in a wheelchair and daughter and several others were almost ran over by a Disney Tram at Epcot in 2007. They were crossing in a cross walk and an inexperienced tram driver reved the engine and the tram came barrelling through the walkway crosswalk. The Disney employees at the scene basically told us to get lost because no one was hurt and any complaints about the incident were basically denied and we were told we better stop complaining or face the Disney Lawyers. The Disney Lawyers will get them out of this mess as well.

Julie McGirr June 6, 2013 at 08:45 pm
Hi Aimee! Sorry ... Pets aren't allowed at this event, but SAMLARC usually hosts a "Dog DayRead More Afternoon" each year, so you might wait for that. Hope you'll still plan to attend RanchoFest!

Edison is a danger and the public knows it no plan no talent no replacement just tons and tons ofRead More nuclear waist if you had to leave and never come back where would you go how would you live ??
JENIFER MASSEY April 9, 2013 at 01:09 pm
It is obligatory that we stop Edison to save ourselves, our equities, our families from everRead More restarting. We must organize intelligently to be certain San Onofre will never operate again. WE MUST NEVER GIVE UP & WE MUST PREVAIL !

The power clicked off and on a full SIX times at my place in that hour and a half. I got so tiredRead More of the various tones going off each time the power was restored that I finally got up and unplugged EVERYTHING.
