Man. Two strikes from assaults/battery. I don't know why I would be out drinking to excess at 2:00Read More a.m. and then driving around with my so called friends either. I probably wouldn't trust anyone, but least of all myself. And that all assumes that I had some sense of self-awareness in the first place (i.e. I know have a temper, I get jealous, I lose control, I get drunk, I get violent, I get into fights,). If you acknowledge these things, then you can change behavior. You have a chance. When you don't or can't, then you're pretty much doomed eventually it seems to me.
Martin Henderson (Editor) May 23, 2013 at 04:53 pm
I just spoke to a former gang prosecutor who indicated Tombleson likely would have to do 85 percentRead More of the time for which he is convicted. With at least one previous strike, the sentence could be doubled. With a second victim, it could be doubled again. So, if the 6 years that MFriedrich mentioned is correct, and let's say the judge chose the middle figure, that would be 24 years; 85 percent would be 20 years mandatory incarceration. This is all stuff that will be determined later, but that's the way it was explained to me. If Tombleson's previous assaults count as two strikes then this would be the third and it's a whole different deal. But if I had two strikes on me, there would be no room in my life for bravado.
MFriedrich May 23, 2013 at 04:35 pm
A guy like that, who has an overabundance of macho bravado and likes to get into fights, well, let'sRead More just say a lot can happen to a person in the California state prison system. Lessons? 1. Don't get drunk and drive around town at 2:00 a.m., as nothing good will every happen to you. I don't care how hungry you think you are. And 2. Call the cops. Don't confront obnoxious drunk people and pick fights with them, especially if you're outnumbered. But oh yeah, I forgot, Tombleson was too drunk to realize any of this himself.

Shri, I think the Sheriff's Department didn't have enough information to call the teen a suspectRead More when he was taken in for questioning.
Linda Roth May 22, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Does anyone know why helicopters and police were atbake and jeronimo around 6:00 pm?
Shripathi Kamath May 22, 2013 at 09:54 pm
How can a 'person of interest' who has been arrested, not called a 'suspect'?
Nic Cendoya is eligible for a drug diversion program, and if he is accepted and completes the requirements, he will not have a conviction his record, according to attorneys.
Mike Proctor May 22, 2013 at 03:02 pm
Are you kidding me. The guy voluntarily helped in the search. He was never asked by any officialRead More agency to help. He said he had hiked the are many times. He knew the risks. He new of the rumors about drug use by the lost hikers, but still chose to volunteer and help with the search. He needs to accept responsibility for the medical bills. Spitzer, is grandstanding, and I find it scary, that he trying to make NEW laws so that he can GO BACK and try and go after these young adults. It looks like he may be trying to save face, because the OCSD dropped the ball, and failed to collect or present enough evidence in the first place, showing that drugs were the reason the hikers got lost in the first place. SORRY Spitzer, you can't have it both ways.

Hey Pete, did you get laid off? It has been over an hour since Orange PD annnounced the findings ofRead More this body, you story is very stale. Maybe the comment below describes the whole picture.. AOL’s Patch Gets New CEO, as Just Under Three Percent of Staff Is Laid Off in Consolidation

Shri, We should probably quit poking the animals. They are, after all, caged behind bars in zoosRead More of their own making...

"His mama was white but you with Avery are a pair to draw to...." - Bobo See, that is howRead More Bobos of the world try to convince others that they consider their irrational hatred of the black skinned guy in the WH is something else.

Double down now, Joe. Please. Let's see who you really are...oh wait, I forgot, you're a cowardRead More hiding behind an alias so you don't have to take responsibility for the vileness that flows from you like the Mississippi River after the spring melt.

Hi Leslie. Click on the Home tab (that would be the homepage) or the News tab (for all news andRead More blogs) and then click on the headline "Residents Buzzed By MV Search That Nabs Four." That was it. The Home tab gives you some of the more interesting stories but the News tab gives you ALL the news as it appears on the site in reverse chronological order. Also, be sure to click on the Boards tab which is Announcements or Opinions that aren't attached to a particular story. The Events tab makes reading event a lot easier now, too. If it looks like police activity in the area, you can snap a cell phone pic and post it directly onto Patch in the Boards; you can also email me directly because I don't see comments (such as this) as they occur. You'd still have to give me the tip. I encourage everyone to click on the buttons and see what happens, and then post to the site.

First he hasn't been convicted. Second we have no way of knowing if he or they were actuallyRead More taking anything or not at the time. 3rd its a very small amount -- it was in his car. They still have to prove how it got there & that it was his Lastly -- I'll reiterate this search cost more because searchers looked in the wrong area. The teens were exactly where they said they were. The fact it got so expensive is not all their fault no matter what. I still feel this is an attempt to divert attention from looking bad for that & preempting a lawsuit as they both almost died. Oh yeah -- and publicity too ... Spritzer called a press conference on it from his home. If they want to save money get rod of the rediculous waste in the county & judges who are taking bribes & trading sex for jobs. Yup -- that is under investigation now & that judge is still hearing cases

These kids don't have two cents to rub together anyway. I'm imaging this cause and effect scenario:Read More While getting "Saddleback Mountain High" on meth, they dropped their smoking pipe to the ground in search of more interesting things like happy butterflies to ride and delicious dry top soil to chew on. Seconds later, a massive conflagration ignites and spreads to burn down Cook's Corner, local homes, campings sites and stables. Good thing that didn't happen, but just imagine the outrage and calls for reimbursement...

Where's the fanfare surrounding this man's heroism (?) like what was all the buzz when the twoRead More hikers were extracted a few weeks ago?

M, Yup. Crime is down but it's still a battle in my neighborhood. Reporting every little thing doesRead More seem to help.

Parents have a responsibility to supervise their children - that's part of the job. Growing up inRead More Southern California we always had the rule when the streetlights came on we had to be home or else. If we whined there was nothing to do we were assigned chores which we did for free. Re some comments: It is amazing that lazy adults allow children to set the rules.
M May 11, 2013 at 12:36 pm
Legally parents can be fined or jailed up to six months. Sounds like no consequences here forRead More breaking the curfew law.
Marc Loopesko May 11, 2013 at 04:55 pm
it seems that these people, the way that they were fighting over the money, would have not calledRead More the police unless they knew about the reward money..... sad statement about society these days
Eric Bergstrom May 10, 2013 at 10:16 pm
There are probably some readers out there who would pay for that.

Condolences to the Martinez family and her friends and colleagues. I hope as part of Carroll'sRead More prior, he had to sign the agreement that if a future DUI caused a death he would be tried for murder 2. This hits close to me; a friend was killed in Tustin last month by a wrong-way DUI driver in Tustin. The woman who murdered him was from RSM. A tiny bit of consolation that she was killed too; the torture will continue for the Martinez family since Carroll survived. As far as I'm concerned on your first DUI conviction your driving is permanently finished and the vehicle you were driving is scrapped. I don't mean to take away from the tragedy that has forever changed the Martinez family...rather I hope this adds to the awareness.

My fault. The second story WAS confusing. The woman had four children total, and she left two withRead More the babysitter who reported her. Thanks for pointing it out; I have added that info to to story to make it more clear. Thanks for reading Patch—and putting up with my non-proofread stories. :-)
Nicole April 28, 2013 at 03:22 pm
The second story is really confusing
Rich April 28, 2013 at 12:01 pm
Martin, Maybe you should have someone proofread your stories. The second story makes no sense. WhereRead More did the 12 year old and newborn all of a sudden appear?

I hope Bubba shows hime some love, it would appear that his parents didn't show him any and that isRead More why he acted out. Maybe he can get Bubba to be his daddy and Bubba's boyfriend will be his mommy and together he will get double the love while he is in prison.
