It has previously been named a California Distinguished School. </p> <p>The school, which has 57 classrooms, has a strong Performance Art program, and its physical fitness options include classes in aerobics and yoga, in addition to a fitness center. The school has participated in Students Run Los Angeles and had 14 students complete the Los Angeles Marathon. </p> <p>Intervention programs have been established to help at-risk students, including before-school reading and math classes, sixth grade study skills classes, social science literacy classes, a mentoring program, a school counselor and a homework club.</p> <p>Its students regularly participate in the Spelling Bee, Academic Pentathlon and Destination Imagination.</p>

Las Flores has adopted an Effective Behavior Support Program for all grades in which staff-approved behavior expectations are taught at the beginning of the school year.</p> <p>The school houses a fee-based preschool and a Special Day Class preschool program.</p> <p>Las Flores earned an Academic Performance Index, commonly referred to as an API score, of 885 in 2009-10, a drop of 11 points from a year earlier but still well above the state average on a scale to 1000.</p>

With the exception of algebra, the school performed at least 27 points higher than the state average for middle schools. The state average in algebra was 47 percent.</p>
